Canadians refer to the Liberals as the natural governing party. They seems to reign for ever until their corruption gets them knocked out as it did in the Sponsorship scandal. Only the corrupt Brian Mulroney was able to win back to back majorities, something never repeated by other Conservative PMs. We had 3 terms of Harper of which two were minorities. The country didn't change much under Harper and his libertarian experiments with deregulation resulted in disasters like Lac Megantic. The wild card in all of this is the populist demonstration by the trucker convoy. This had considerable tacit support which was why it was allowed to go on so long. We shall see how this populism is reflected our in the political stage as things evolve.
