Great article, Bonsu. I have visited Richmond once and my interest in doing so was largely around Civil war tourism including the museum of the Confederacy.

However I have never been on the receiving end of weaponized history as an instrument of racial hate.

Public spaces should be unifying for all. I hope Richmond and other confederate cities can find harmonizing, inclusive symbols without erasing history.
