Great topic. Home schooling is only as effective as the parents' ability to communicate and lead. Institutional learning provides systematized solutions to unique individuals that often alienate students. I am a big fan of self-directed learning to a point. After awhile, you need a real world ambassador to apply what you've learned.

Parents should note that navigating institutions like schools is a life skill in itself. One that will be handy if the student ever works for a large employer.
