Great topic but the complaints about the "costs of singledom" are a joke compared to the financial pressures of marriage. This is not to deny that singlism exists for it most certainly does.
Marriage is very unnatural in that every married person sacrifices some major part of themselves for a good portion of their life for the good of the unit. In short it runs against our selfish nature.
The downsides of marriage are very steep and I believe that no one should marry for societal expectation alone.
Still there is no better framework for bringing kids into this world and in that context marriage is still the only game in town.
