I have an acquaintance who owns a very successful travel blog. The first thing she told me was that I would never maximize income or control my content or destiny on someone else's platform. In my heart I know she's right. Do I think going to the trouble is worth it? I haven't answered that for myself conclusively yet.

On another note, I have begun the process of pulling some of my magazine quality articles off Medium to repurpose them elsewhere. That took about a day of researching where to pitch and then writing a pitch e-mail to convince the editor on the other end. As I researched the best markets I notice that their typical pieces are twice the length of the posts I had in mind. Which means more rewriting and back and forth with editors.

Every change in strategy involves a significant investment in up front, unpaid work.
