The nostrum that we can all achieve our dreams regardless of our starting point in life sets us up for a lot of disappointment and self-doubt. Most successful people by the conventional meaning of the word are megalomaniacs or sociopaths. Still, I prefer pursuing life's most optimistic possibilities. Not because I think I'll make it but because I need the motivation of the big dream to get me out of bed in the morning.
