there is a lot of self-abnegation in parenting. Some is noble and some is borderline self harm. I'm not one to trot out glib, easy answers. My youngest just turned 19 and I am going to be catching up on a lot of denied self care in my next two decades. I will only add that IMO our kids are our true legacy and art/literature is probably a close second. They are both worth your best efforts.
