There was once a time when through hard work and ingenuity, you could overcome your economic station of birth. The 1% have closed that off to the middle class. Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg were all silver spoon Ivy League kids. Horatio Alger stories don't happen any more. The elite have bought off the politicians so that the American Dream and its equivalents elsewhere are fenced off.
