This article is very timely. If Jussie Smollett is facing 150 days behind bars, that is punishment enough as far as criminal justice goes. He is not a threat to public safety has effectively committed career suicide with his staged prank and will likely never work again in the entertainment field.

However, in the court of the internet, Jussie has committed a heinous crime.

In the back drop of the George Floyd murder, Jussie has made a mockery of those who became anti-black racism activists for the first time in their lives. Many of these are white people who are new to anti-racism activism.

These people feel manipulated and betrayed. What once were allies in the struggle now wonder aloud if they haven't been hoodwinked.

We were on the verge of a massive societal swing toward social justice to combat anti-black racism. Smollett's crime made a mockery of that.
