Unfortunately there is no equivalent to the American South in Canada. We must escape for some part of the year to be warm. Americans are uniquely fortunate to have the far north and the tropics in their own country.

Your points about expat life are well considered. Nothing is a cure all. There are only trade offs. Self knowledge of who you are culturally matters too.
