Vancouver had a massive influx from Hong Kong when it reverted to Chinese control. You have multi million dollar mansions with owners listed as university students. There has also been a lot of criminal money laundering through Canadian real estate.

Canada is starting to legislate against housing absenteeism but it is too late for the working class. I've told my kids not to limit their career prospects to Canada.

I've read Jared Brock articles on this as well. It's become a hot button political issue.
