Very few of my friends are readers. I don’t mind that the non-readers didn’t read my writing. If a reader friend ignored or put down my writing I’d be bothered.

I have a friend who self published a science fiction book. I’m an avid reader but I don’t care a whit for sci-fi and I never will. I think my sci-fi friend took offense when I neither bought nor read his book. Maybe that makes me a bad friend but my tastes are what they are
