As a white Canadian, I am not sensitized to how the Confederate flag has been co-opted as a symbol of hate. I am generally opposed to censoring history because it erases the past but communicating hate is a form of harassment.

I have studied Civil War history, visited a few battle sites and find it fascinating.

I hope the south comes up with another more peaceful symbol to express cultural pride
